1970 Cockburn
Polished redwood in colour, 40% opaque. A slight medicinal note to the nose. Smooth entry with a pleasantly thick texture with lots of dust and rose hip. Nicely balanced mid-palate with the acidity providing a lovely foil to the mature fruit. Delicious palate development. An aftertaste of muscvado sugar leads to a powerful finish that warms the mouth and dries the tongue and cheeks with green tannins before fading to a long length of cranberry and brown sugar. A great port at its peak. 94/100. Drunk 21-Feb-17.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
