1995 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at the Graham's Lodge at the end of a tour of the new visitors centre. Ex-cellars.

Dense and opaque with the colour just starting to show some bricking. Youthful nose with lots of fresh and slightly sour fruit. Lovely sweet fruit on entry showing a great core of acidity and an underlying cocoa tannin with an unusual hint of raisins. Lots of tannins on the late palate. A big aftertaste which is chewy and slightly green. This is a port which is very big, very youthful and slightly rustic. One to leave for another 10 years. 88/100. 20-Jun-17.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
