Mon 13 August: Emergency

Post by jdaw1 »

The Boss has told me that the website for the book needs some really good pictures of a tasting. Fine Port being drunk by Fine Men, with a Debonaire Intensity appropriate to the King of Wines (maybe she didn’t quite say all that, but near enough), as photographed by friend-of-HI professional photographer. “So that the audience can see the passion and the culture, so that they experience being there. It’s a passion, a sport, a brotherhood.”

When, ≥ Mon 13th August, might work for the team?

There is no requirement that there be only one date.

† I officially don’t understand the modern world. But at least I know that I don’t know.

Mon 13th August having been chosen, there is a draft of the placemats.

That week works for me and as the week of the glorious twelfth I'm happy to adorn full tweed hunting regalia ( avec glass or stirrup cup of Port in hand) for the photo shoot for next month's Horse and Hound. Sorry, forgive me, a touch of heat stroke for which Port will be a good cure!

I will seek permission. Do you need a professional photographer to attend the evening (and take up a seat as my guest, if he's available and if I'm given permission)?

As we appear to have a quorum, and JDAW has been unusually quiet I have taken the liberty and booked the red room for Monday 13th :D

Who is in the quorum? What is the theme? Will I need to adopt? I think we should be told.

Ah, ok, it's the easy questions first...

Taylor 1963 (Justerini & Brooks bottling)
Smith Woodhouse 1977 (Magnum)
Niepoort 1970 (dumpy bottle)
Cockburn 1967 (Joanna bottling)
Warre 1960 (Bottled by Grants of St James's - blue wax capsule)
Fonseca 1985 (ex-cellars circa 2010)
Ferreira 1963 (square-shouldered bottle)

Primal Chaos reigns once again!

As we have not yet guessed the Ports I can only use the names of the contributors to vote for WOTN:

3 points to idj123
2 points to AHB
1 point to DaveRL

Honourable mention to Uncle Tom.

The general conclusion of the people sitting round the table was that the monkey needed to get out more - perhaps to a port tasting!

The wines were:
Offley Boa Vista 1970
Niepoort 1983
Offley 1980
Sandeman 1979 (Wine Society bottling)
The Warre 1960 was Delaforce 1977
Vesuvio 1995
Fonseca Guimaraens 1968

Monkey claims 2 points for 1970+Niepoort+Warre+Fonseca.

There are bonus points available to anyone at the annex tasting who can guess which Port Monkey is drinking.

Ah, back to the traditional "one quiz at a time" question. The monkey is clearly drinking Graham Crusted 2013 recently purchased from Sainsbury.
