NV Quinta do Mourao Tawny 30YO (S. Leonardo)

Post by winesecretary »

Noted towards the end of an evening, this was a rather lovely tawny of the richer variety. It reminded me again of the qualitative step-up between 20 and 30 yr old tawny ports. Tasted 21/05/19.

Rita Braga (Miguel Braga's niece)'s contribution to the offline. From Quinta do Mourao. Bottled 2019. Gentle ochre colour with a soft green rim. A hint of nuts on the nose; lovely orange on the palate backed by a nice dry grip. Rich and very full on the palate with great balance and powerful presence. The orange is a theme which runs through the palate and delivers a big flash of flavour on the aftertaste. Rich and sweet Crepe Suzette and a long length. 92/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
