A wonderful mature dark brick red colour, 50% opaque. Sweet redcurrant nose, fragrant and slightly aggressive despite the wine appearing to be mature; very pronounced nose. Smooth in entry, full of flavour, rich and delicious yet with a mass of mace infusing the sweet fruit. Deep, rich and complex with a fabulous balance. There is some slight heat on the aftertaste, which is surprisingly youthful and dry, with the heat escalating into the finish; the finish is long, sweet and lovely. Served blind, this big, rich and wonderful wine was guessed to be Taylor Vargellas 1987. 91/100. Tasted 05-Feb-20. Decanted 8 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
