Quevedo Tasting 2 - 30th July 2020

Post by forest26 »

Oscar will host a second live Quevedo tasting on 30th July 8pm BST. As before it will be on You Tube live.
The focus of this is on his white ports. The packs contain 90ml bottles of:

- Reserve White
- 10 year White
- 30 Year White
- 1970 White (or Very Old White from an unregistered 1970 cask)

He also wants to show his new releases of:
- 2015 LBV
- 2018 VP (which is technically a free cask sample).

Oscar and I have set aside some discounted packs for TPF. They are only available through this link Quevedo Tasting . We only put together a total 100 packs for this tasting - more than half have now gone...

Shucks - I bought too early.
*Edit* Now following Rich's advice

Also the link for the reduced packs should be
https://www.vintagewineandport.co.uk/pr ... do-30000-1

(i.e. 1 at the end not the default 0)

I'm excited for this, I certainly need to expand my white port horizons. Is there interest in a post-tasting Zoom gathering?

Do you want a placemat? If one page, no room for logos. Either send detailed instructions, or allow me to use my skill and judgement.

Edit: if one page, no room for many logos.

Interested to get some feedback on the 90ml bottle size. Oscar and I are trying to find a compromise between 5ml (too small) and halves (too much)

This is quite an interesting question. I think a lot depends on who the consumers are. For example, I have seen these virtual tastings as an evening’s entertainment so have always done them with someone else. As a result, we would like to have a satisfactory quantity to drink. However, I am not sure if that is typical: perhaps you are also getting lots of pros who want to spit? Or perhaps couples are buying more than one set?

I remember that 67 Pall Mall does samples at c. 7cl which I presume is about ⅒ of the viable contents of a bottle. I think that is a perfectly reasonable quantity, although with two of us tasting it was clearly a “one set of glasses” job. As a result, I think there would be an advantage with 9cl in that we can split the samples into two glasses (either to share or try the next day).

The other thing is that I tend to look at overall quantities to get a sense of how much I am really paying. As a result, I would be happier to take smaller samples when there are more bottles and larger samples when there are fewer.

I think this is a great size for a tasting like this with 6 wines, it is a decent pour, but allows an attractive price point. Big enough that people can share, but for thirsty people the price is reasonable enough to buy one each.

All wines pretty good, but 50yo/1970 excellent.
