2000 Niepoort Secundum

Post by winesecretary »

90% opaque, still looks young.

+8 hours

Herbaceous nose, but much dumber than I remember this being in half. Rich plums on the mid palate slowly moving towards the blackcurrrant spectrum. Finish still quite warm.

+30 hours

White pepper on the nose then after swirling bags of liquorice and herbs underneath. Bitter cassis on the palate with quite a lot of acidity and attack. A note on the finish that is best described as Strepsil blackcurrant throat lozenges.

On this showing considerably less ready than the same wine tasted in half bottle earlier this year. In bottle I'll leave it for 3-5 years before cracking another one.

Consumed on 04/08/20 and 05/08/20 (with co-taster).
