1980 Gould Campbell
From half. Level excellent. Cork disintegrated on attempting to extract (alas, I am currently temporarily separated from my Durand). Some sediment, satisfyingly solid.
Colour a rich ruby red, paling rim. Pronounced nose of figs and prunes. Lots of cherries, dipped in kirsch and coated in chocolate, on the front palate. Yet for all that not a lot of heat left in this one; pronounced well-matured sloe gin note on the finish but again without quite the heat of the spirit that that has.
From half, delicious drinking, with no significant advance decant necessary.

I have an opportunity to buy this for €18,45 per bottle, from the best of provenances (SFE themselves). It sounds like the wine is still in good shape, so I I'm gonna go ahead and get a case or two.

I think this is a great Port and one of the best 1980's plus that is an amazing price, you wont get better value for decent Port - go large

Re: 1980 Gould Campbell
The bottle we had the 1980 tasting was excellent. At that price, I’d buy all you can.

Great! I'll pull the trigger.
Have access to the 2000 as well, for the same price, but alas the TNs on that one are lacking.

That is an amazing price for bottles with that kind of stellar provenance! I'm very jealous, as I also think this is one of the best 1980s VPs.
A couple of cases, indeed.

Agreed- I'd be content paying three times that.

Buy all the 1980 GC you can at that price.
Re: 1980 Gould Campbell
Alas, I was too late, they ran out of the 1980. Still have the 2000 for the same price, which I bought.
