1988 Delaforce Colheita (bottled 2006)

Post by JacobH »

Notes: Bottled 2006. T-cork disintegrated on opening. Quite a lot of sediment for a colheita and so needed proper decanting.

The colour was orange in the middle fading quite quickly towards the end.

It was very strong on the nose but not attractive. There were nice burnt oranges there but that was consumed by a noxious alcohol.

In the mouth it was much better. Some sugar. A little caramelised oranges. Good acidity. Long, attractive aftertaste.

Very much let down by the nose. Probably over-aged in the bottle.

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are rated against others of their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port which I rate as C for Certainly good, might not be as good as a Vintage Port which receives the same rating. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
