It is indeed, I believe normally reserved for the more premium juice.

Yes, IIRC from our visit there in 2018 or 2019, Palmer and Maynards are meant to be their higher-end brands.

Hysteria! Goose chase! Count me in… there hasn’t been a good wild poultry shoot for a while. But, sad to say that the ‘flagship’ of Asda stores that Weymouth is blessed with, had Bonfim 08 but it was at £28 rather than the ‘hot deal’. At least my curiosity was satisfied if not my cellar.

I'm intrigued to know what the next LBV offering from Warre will be - it's about a year now since the '08 first appeard in the US, some time before it was offered in the UK. Was there no '05 - or did they skip it to give it more time to mature? I can understand them passing '06 as the vintage was difficult, although the Dow '06 LBV is a decent wine.

Aldi are selling off the Fletcher’s 2016 LBV in tube packaging that they were selling at £9.99, for £7.99, to clear the shelves. I think it was good value at the original price and even better with the 20% reduction.

Yes. In store it dropped to £8.99 last week with a further drop at the weekend to £7.99. I guess it is possible it will go further south if the shelves don’t clear. One store near me still had about 10 to clear.

I can't quite believe that the reserve hasn't been met yet. But I guess that might be due to the mislabeling of what I can only assume is actually 1962 Noval.

Hmm.. Cr82 is no superstar, but not a disaster area either - one well known writer has taken against this wine - but not entirely fairly though (IMO)..

For those in a Pennsylvania or the US East Coast, Pennsylvania's state liquor stores are running their summer clearance sale, which includes quite a few ports. The most attractive deal found was 2011 Ferreira for $50 - I picked up two bottles

This thing sounds pretty interesting, but it's worth a try or not. I started using Wish after I found that Wish free shipping from DontPayFull, and since then, I always look for the things I have been looking for for a long time but could not find. Seriously, there you can find everything you want. I also read articles like this, in which I was offered coupons, but the problem was that I already had to buy some products, but I wasn't sure if it was worth it. But I will try this link you sent. But it already depends on what they are looking for and what they need. It seems super addictive.

A friend of mine just sent me a link to this auction listing which includes a “1964 Ruby Port” which was apparently “matured in wood” and “bottled in 1974”. I know old colheitas were described as anything under the sun but I’ve never seen one describing itself as a “ruby” before. The terminology rather amused me!

I know old colheitas were described as anything under the sun but I’ve never seen one describing itself as a “ruby” before. The terminology rather amused me!

On the recently concluded PHT I had the opportunity to taste a 1937 Dow Vintage Port Matured in Cask.

There's fairly good evidence that the '37 vintage was about to be declared, when the imminent declaration of war cancelled the event. Labels like this support the notion that pipes ready and filled for shipment as VP, were suddenly left languishing in Portuguese lodges..

Agreed. However, the label would not have been added until much later, at which point there would have been no need to call it Vintage Port at all. So while the reason for so much Colheita from 1937 existing is almost certainly the war, the reason for this particular label doesn't seem like it would have anything to do with the war at all.

You're no doubt correct, but in my experience "Reserve" or "Grand Reserve" or even "Port of the Vintage" were much more common. This was literally the first time I'd ever seen "Vintage Port" in that order used on anything other than an actual Vintage Port.

Have only tried the first one. Got a case of six fairly reasonably and have drunk a few. My recollection is of a better than standard tawny. Was quite nice but nothing extraordinary.

Kept the empties as it didn’t feel right to bin them.
