Dark. Glossy.

Slightly odd nose.

Rich, sweet and jammy on the palate. Blackcurrant jam. Lovely balance.

Really very pleasant but not my WOTN.

65% opacity, deep dark red. Big brooding nose, damson and molasses. Huge power in the mouth, still large tannin action, damson, dryness, great backbone. One to put away for some time.

Very dark compared to the others on show. My notes say "amazing" for the nose. Promising. In the mouth, lovely blackcurrant with notes of coffee - perhaps also chocolate. Too drinkable and really fantastic. Joint WOTN for me.

Such a deep red as to still be almost black with a narrow rim - really youthful and impenetrable. Subdued on the nose showing just a hint of black cherry and cedar; quite tight and youthful. A lovely texture on entry, deep and rich. Still very young and showing primary fruit with black cherry and blackcurrant. Big, rich and with tannins almost hidden by the fruit - a fabulous palate. Black cherry aftertaste and a fragrant, floral finish that ends with dark chocolate. This is very, very good but is desperately in need of another quarter century in the cellar. Despite the need for more patience, this was my second place for wine of the night at this 1994 Horizontal. 97/100. 16-Nov-21. Decanted 9 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
