S42, decanted 13:30. Brick red, 30% opaque. Nose of spearmint and maraschino cherry. Palate very odd, identified by CPR as rotten oranges; also burnt rubber, good acidity, long and soft.

Reddish brown. On the palate medicinal but attractive.

Sandeman 1942, decanted 13.00 and drunk at 20.00. Mature red colour, 40% opaque. Rubber bands and redcurrant nose, nicely balanced palate with the redcurrants showing initially but then a dirty slightly spoiled tone on the late palate. Some heat and more dirt on the aftertaste before this settles to a redcurrant jelly finish. Interesting drinking due to its age and rarity, but not particularly enjoyable. 81/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Meant to upload this at the time, but forgot...

The first of three S42s from the now nearly famous stash of possibly iffy (but have generally been at least quite good) bottles acquired from Corney & Barrow in 2018. These were £12 each.

The empty bottle:
