1970 Sandeman

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From magnum. Mature colour, lightly pigmented at 40% opaque. Restrained nose showing just a little maraschino cherry. A lovely texture on the palate, mature and secondary with lovely dried fruit. Perhaps a little elderly for a 1970 magnum, just starting to dry out but delicious despite this. A very lively aftertaste and very long red liquorice finish. Enjoyable, sticky red jelly at the end. Known to be 1970 but served blind with respect to the shipper this was guessed to be Ramos Pinto. 89/100. Drunk 26-Apr-22. Decanting time not noted.

45% opacity, mature red, orange rim. Lovely rich mouthfeel, sweet with extracted fruit - cranberries, oranges. Sharp edge in the finish, slight acidic bite/heat.
