Portuguese Wines Dinner, B&F Tuesday 14th June 2022 - POSTPONED

Portuguese Wine Dinner
Boot & Flogger, Green Room - 7pm, Tuesday 14th June 2022

“Following previous Ridge, Jaboulet and Bordeaux events where we've had a few bottles of something that isn't Port, and then a couple of bottles that are.” To quote NAC

I have felt that I haven’t drunk enough Portuguese table wines after a chat at the last tasting.

I was thinking a line up of the following bottle areas but happy to change this around.

Whites
1,
2,

Reds
1, Quinta Do Vale D. Maria 1999 (Mag) -HTWH
2, Crasto Touriga National 2006 - JDAW
3,
4,
R, Niepoort, Redoma, Douro, 2006 - HTWH

Ports or sweet
1,
2,
R, something 70 not sure of shipper - HTWH

This works best with a maximum eight heads currently there is lots of spaces

Attendees:
1. HTWH
2. NAC
3. JDAW
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

P.S I happy to talk to the B&F about Special Steaks if people are game.

Ooh, yes pls. But I have only one (albeit a delicious one): Crasto Touriga National 2006. Obvs., willing to bring fortified as well.

I would've had very many bottles to contribute, but alas I'm not available on this date.

I did not understand this sentence. Nonetheless, amenable to either, lightly preferring the latter.

I’ll definitely bring Bonifacio Unilar Reserva 1977; a red, possibly from Setubal. Will check the details.

Probably something else as well - maybe one of the Chocapalha variants.

Will have a look in the cellar and confirm.

Yes, it's from Palmela, in the Península de Setúbal DOC region. That should be an interesting bottle to open.

Out of curiosity, per person, how many bottles of wine, how many of Port?

From a case of 12 purchased many years ago from Laithwaites. Last bottle was a few years ago, and was still drinking very nicely.

Suspect rather depends upon number of attendees, but if it remains at just three then how about 4-5 bottles still + 1 fortified (in total - not per head).

Is this is just the three of us then the Green Room is probably not needed...

Are we still going to do this or should we do something less formal?

I'd have liked to have made it but have a prior that can't be changed. If only three of you, maybe a different date for the Portuguese wines, and then Charles and I can maybe make it?

I think that we should postpone this tasting as there is a few others that would like to join in plus i have a few bottles being sent to me to try which should be good for this tasting.

I will drop the 2 of you a line about other options.

I have two of São João Porta dos Cavaleiros Dão Tinto 1980 - allowing one for backup. Of the six purchased at auction in December 2017, four have so far slipped down a treat. As before I'm generally available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings...
