The first post has now been updated to drop everyone from the list who said they would not be able to attend in the event of a rail strike. The people removed are:
  • Ian
  • Ben
  • Charles
  • Simon
  • Wolfgang
If any of these people will still attend, please say shout as soon as possible and I'll put you back on the list of attendees.

If anyone on the list of attendees now can't make it, again please shout as soon as possible so I can update the first post.

I have been hoping beyond hope that there may have been some changing of the strike situation this week, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. So, unless there is an about turn I will sadly not be able to make it. I very much hope there are enough people to make it happen. My best to Oscar and you all and I hope to be there for the next check on the closures in 5 years time.

JDAW also needs to know the "interesting" bottles that are being offered.

To kick off, NAC + MPM is Ramos Pinto 20yo, bottled 1968.

When I was added to the list, Alex suggested I bring something as I was the person not paired on the list. I have 2 choices for interesting, depending on how interesting people want to be. Any preferences?

The most ‘interesting’ is not a port but a 1990 Domaine Hillside Classico from Azerbaijan. On the back label it says ‘Gold amber coloured white desert wine produced in 1990 from Bayan Shira and Rkasiteli grapes ….stored in special vats for 28 years before bottling’.120g sugar. I have had a glass of this and enjoyed it although it was at the end of a long evening. As an alternative I could bring a Devesa 40+ white (500ml bottle) which I have not tried before but assume one or two of you have.

The food order for tomorrow is as follows:
Quevedo Dinner Food Order.JPG
Quevedo Dinner Food Order.JPG (59.88 KiB) Viewed 7029 times

If you want anything changed on this, then you'll need to ask when you're there.

I'm intending to ask for starters at 7pm.

In interest of fairness, I'll calculate individual bills with the cost of our guest's meal split between us.

Will assume everyone is OK with this unless I hear otherwise.

Think it's as follows:
- Neil & Mike - Ramos Pinto 20yo, bt 1968
- Michael & Julian - Devesa 40+ White
- Tony - Graham 1966
- Christopher bringing a bottle (identity tbc) + Ben

Christopher is bringing Croft 63.

I'm in the office tomorrow, so will print before going to 67. I'll aim to get there 1730ish & will book people in.

Current draft of the placemats. Somebody please check. Please include in the checking the list of closures: I don’t have the list in writing, so have done it from memory.

Please could someone take 4 sample bottles tomorrow and give Oscar 4 samples of the 2014 wines to give to me when I see him on Thursday?

If desired, I’ll happily return the sample bottles when I next see the person lending them.

Chaps - I am a little disappointed. The opening of the first Quevedo Closure Experiment case was an historic occasion. It will never be repeated. People attending future openings will be very interested in being able to compare their experience with those of the people tasting from the first case.

Please, someone attending, say what you thought of the way the wines were developing after 6 years in bottle under each of the different closures.
