1970 Quinta de Roriz

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A 5cl sample taken by Oscar Quevedo of a bottle he shared with members of the Port Forum at the tasting of the first Closure Experiment Pack at 67 Pall Mall; he acquired this bottle at a charity auction in Sao Joao de Pesqueira. From the book, Port Vintages, the wine would have been made by the Van Zeller family and would have been one of the last vintages marketed (on a non-exclusive basis) by Gonzalez Byass.

Warm rose-red colour, 50% opaque. An attractive nose of sweet rose hip, raspberry and dust. Lovely balance on the entry, sweet with mature fruit and a little rose water; rich mid-palate showing off the spices from the bottle aging in this lovely mature palate. Sweet, elegant and refined aftertaste, little menthol heat at the start of the finish before a long , gentle redcurrant and aniseed finish. A lovely, gentle and elegant wine; beautifully refined and fully mature. 91/100. Tasted 14-Dec-22.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

We gathered at 67 Pall Mall with Oscar Quevedo, for the first opening of his Closure Experiment cases of the 2014 Vintage Port from Quevedo.
