1974 Quevedo Colheita (bottled 2020)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A tasting sample from the Quevedo tasting room in Vila Nova de Gaia.

1974 Quevedo, bottled July 2020. Dark rosewood colour, 90% opaque. Roasted nuts, caramel and pomegranate concentrate on the nose. The strong vinagrinho the wine showed on being poured blew off in a few minutes in the glass. Fresh fruit on the palate, caramelised orange and a little cherry. A wonderful concentration to the wine with a richness to luxuriate in. Warm toasted finish, with orange marmalade and burnt sugar. One of those wines which makes you forget you’re supposed to be back at the hotel putting on a black tie for dinner! 94/100. Tasted 22-Jun-22.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
