NV Ferreira Tawny 30YO (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Ferreira’s first offering of a wine older than 20yo. Nicolau de Almeida always maintained that 20YO Tawny was the perfect blend as the wines still showed fresh fruit on the nose but also the complexity and depth coming from some of the older wines. However, some years after NdA retired, Luís Sottomayor took the decision to make a 30yo blend as - he believes - wines are taking longer to lose their youthful freshness on the nose.

Bottled June 2022. So smooth on the palate; mellifluous, yet bringing dried zest, caramelised orange. I love it when a wine brings a smile to my face! Rich and so rounded. A complete wine.  93/100. Jan-23. Open 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.

2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
