Tuke Holdsworth vertical (abandoned)
A Tuke Holdworth vertical was requested at a recent tasting; on discussion we had a reasonable amount of interest but very few bottles between us; not really enough. Rather than expanding the tasting with additional Brands or just additional good VPs, the preference was to save the bottles for other events, so the idea of a TH vertical is abandoned for the time being.
Original discussion is retained below in case useful for future reference.
At a recent tasting there was enthusiasm expressed for a Tuke Holdsworth vertical, and since I haven't arranged a vertical in some time I offered to organise. As we already have a Ferreira vertical aimed for Sept, I propose that we plan for a Tuke Holdsworth vertical in mid-November (perhaps Tur 21st) if we have enough bottles and interest.
Date: Mid-November 2023, possibly Tue 21st Nov
Location: B&F
Theme: A Tuke Holdsworth vertical
Vintages: TBD
Please therefore respond either in-thread if you would be interested, and to let me know what bottles you might be able to offer (PM or email me if you prefer), so we can see whether this might be viable?
So far:
Bottles offered (5): TH '20, '22, '34, '47, '55
Interest expressed (10+): PW, CPR, TC, AHB, HWTH, IDJ, GEAG, JDAW, MPM, NAC, (JacobH?,) and akzy

Definitely. My experience with TH is limited but I’ve been impressed.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

I have none but eager to attend and happy to make appropriate fiscal contributions

Yes please.
I’ve got TH47 which colour is ok but it’s mid shoulder. Happy to add it in, or equally happy not to if someone has a better bottle they’re able to offer.

I have...
1947 - base of neck; the third of three obtained from a special C&B sale for very few £. The previous two are on the tasting note index.
1955 - just into neck; BBR bottled; obtained from BBR's paper broking list in December 1996.
Happy to provide both of these.

Need to check as the location reference is same - but potentially either '20 or '34

Out of idle interest, when was the last TH declaration? I'm afraid that I'm travelling at the moment and so can't consult The Book!

Gosh. I had no idea they kept that brand going for so long. I had thought it had petered out 50+ years ago, although I suppose the declarations post 1963 were rather capricious!
Incidentally, there is a photo of a 2003 floating around on the web. I assume there is no reason for it to be a fake!

There also appears to be a 1995 VP. https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=554403

Re: Tuke Holdsworth vertical (? TBC perhaps 21st Nov 2023)
So far we have expressions of interest from 10 people (possibly 12), but only five vintages. That number might yet increase (THRA?) but if not then we might need to expand the criteria, perhaps by including other Hunt Roope and Co produced brands from the same period (such as the Eira Vehla '43 and '45) or Hunt branded bottles, if we have them available. A topic for discussion over Cavadinha, perhaps.

FWIW, I have images of bottles produced by Hunt, Roope and Co branded Quinta da Eira Vehla for both 1943 and 1945, though neither mention TH on them; not sure how that lines up with your list/records/intention above.jdaw1 wrote: ↑20:13 Mon 20 Mar 2023 Doubtless this will be a complete tasting, including all of:

Re: Tuke Holdsworth vertical (not for now).
Following further discussion at the recent WC tasting, the idea for a TH vertical has been put on hold given the very limited number of bottles that people have available; other potential ways to extend the tasting (such as expanding to any Hunt/Roope, adding other Brands of similar era [e.g. Constantino], or a second-half of just good VP) were discussed, but the overall conclusion on these was not positive, and the preference was to retain the bottles for other future events. I have updated the first post to reflect this.
