2003 Quinta do Noval

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

We were invited to join a tasting organised for some visitors from the Carlton Club on the second morning of our two night stay at Noval. The tasting included this wine.

Noval 2003, pop and pour. Served alongside the 2020. Brick red tone. Tremendous nose, rich and complex with sweet fruit and dusting of spices. Sweet and smooth on the palate, refined and elegant. Sweet loganberry on the palate, delicious cedar and cinnamon. Tannins are fine-grained and coat the outside of the fruit. Warm menthol and gentle aniseed finish. Lovely, at a delicious drinking point between youth and maturity. 93/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
