2019 Quevedo

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Quevedo 2019, bottled in 9cl for the 2022 Advent calendar. 2019 was a very dry year in the Douro but the vines still produced balanced and ripe Ports.

Very deep, very dark red with a narrow rim. Wonderful exuberant fruit nose, full of sweet black cherry (a characteristic of Tinta Roriz). Wonderfully silky on entry, poised and smooth with the fruit gliding over the tongue. The mid-palate shows the power and grip on this wine, generous acidity and firm slightly green tannins. The wine keeps its harmony and balance on the palate but has so much character. Menthol on the aftertaste quickly gives way to black fruit-gums, dark chocolate and a long, long back mint finish. This is a fabulous young Vintage Port which will develop beautifully over the decades. 93-95/100. Tasted 14-Feb-23. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
