NV Quevedo White 50YO (bottled 2023)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

NV Quevedo White 50 Year Old, bottled in 2023 in 10cl format for the 2023 advent calendar. Obviously bottled unfiltered, I have never seen so much sediment in a White Port! Deep brown in colour, mahogany brown with an olive green rim; 80% opaque. Full of beeswax and râncio on the nose, lifted and expressive. The balance on the palate is exquisite, the wine deep and powerful with terrific acidity and an incredible depth of dried fruit, sultanas, coffee…such stunning complexity. Despite the power and size, the wine is beautifully balanced. The richness and depth continue on the aftertaste and finish, appearing as one layer of flavours after another for several minutes - certainly long enough from a single sip to outlast washing up after dinner. Truly wonderful Port.  96/100. Drunk 09-Jan-24. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
