1972 Taylor Vargellas

Post by Alex M »

Purchased from Nickoll Perks in 2015 for £40. Sold as ‘assumed’.

I had committed this to the Vargellas tasting but it continued to leak and I don’t have the skill to fix it.

Cork fell into the bottle when attempted to remove with Butlers Thief. Confirmed Vargellas 1972.

Decanted at 1200. Tasted at 1900.

Very dark. Much darker than I thought it would be. Smells of strawberries. A lot of heat, maybe something not right but it doesn’t feel integrated well. Tastes of Parma violets and berries. Long finish but overburdened with heat.

If you have some. Drink it up.

Photo to follow when I can reduce the file size.

After an hour in the glass the heat has gone. Smoother. Fine for the vintage but my previous assessment still stands, drink up.

Interesting notes. The 1 hour update is very useful. Thank you for posting it.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
