1991 Niepoort

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Niepoort 1991, half bottle. Evolved colour, bronze; 30% opaque. Unpleasant nose, perhaps weevil tainted? But something not right. The palate is better than the nose with toffee and caramel, unfortunately a little oxidised. So much caramel and butterscotch! The butterscotch persists beautifully on the finish. A few years ago, this would have been a wonderful glass of wine. 86/100. Served blind. Guess: Graham 1960. Drunk 14-August-2024.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
