A modest proposal

Post by Justin K »

Like a fellow Irishman before me, who wrote about injustice to a class of people, I have a request to make to
all of those who organise tastings. I’m not referring to those spur of the moment gatherings but the important ones that fill up fast.

I propose that the organiser(s) hold back one place every time and reserve it for an overseas forum member. Often I see a tasting come up and before I can even research flights and accommodation,or even whether I have clashing dated, the spaces have been filled. Of course if there is no interest from overseas after say a week then the space becomes available again.

There was a time when I was in lonely company when counting overseas members but now our numbers are way up so perhaps this would make things fair?

Or an overseas member could post saying something like “Yes please, subject to being able to book flights. I’ll confirm or deny within seven days.”

In response to such a post I am sure organisers would happily accommodate. After a week has elapsed the poster would be nudged — “how was flight booking, dear fellow?” — and the response to that would determine whether the place is then held or released.

Would this be unfair?

Not relevant for me but some of our forum members are 8 hours back from us and when they wake up all the places are gone.

Always good to put proposals forward,
I rather agree with Julian , put a placeholder in.
I get the point re 8 hours but I am not sure that’s different from others as many of us don’t look at site that often.
I think what we are really saying is that’s tastings are getting super popular and filling up. Perhaps sometimes we can have the same tasting twice or possibly look at 2 bottles increase numbers but that I suspect means a different venue
