2000 Sainsbury

Post by jdaw1 »

As organised by George G., on Monday 10th February 2025, Some of the usual folks gathered in the Boot & Flogger, for a horizontal of 2000s.

Woe betide! What has become of us‽ A horizontal of Port from this century. Yes yes, the world has other disasters afoot, but this disaster is afoot here: what has become of us‽

I should add - this has very clearly been recorked- presumably to remove a branded one.

TTD00. Dark red, 70% opaque. Dry, slight grit. I thought not the same as Quarles Harris, as lighter and shorter. But good drinking all the same.

Pleasant spicy wine reminiscent of the QH. Same star anise note.

Sainsbury Taste the Difference labelled.

Mature in tone and appearance. 80% opaque. Sweet black berry fruit on the nose, perhaps fruit salad. Balanced entry, medium bodied with ripe fruit backed by good acidity. The tannins are faint, the lingering fruit on the persistent finish is lovely. 88/100. Known to be SW, GC or QH. From appearance and taste, it is the QH.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
