Pop and decant and pour

Colour still 97% impenetrable, red rim, still glass coating,

Confit black cherry nose

Lovely smooth cool blue fruit palate, with some red and then black fruit later, but there’s so much density to the fruit that the tannins (which are there, the structure is admirable) are still largely hidden.

It is moving at a glacial pace, but I am going to continue trying it every two or three years because it is truly wonderful juice.

This is one of the ten or so ports I have had repeatedly that I welcome as old friends - and the only one from this century - Warre 66, 70, Dow 80, Taylor 77 and 92, Fonseca 85, Croft 45, Niepoort 17, Vesuvio 92, Mackenzie 55…

I have yet to have a really good bottle of Taylor '77...one of these days, hopefully. The '92 on the other hand is exquisite. The Dow '80 is one of my personal favorites.

1977 Taylor’s has massive bottle variation. If lucky, it’s a fabulous VP. If not, mediocre at best. I refuse to buy anymore because of it.

That said, a lot of 1977 VP’s have varying bottle issues. So Taylor’s isn’t an anomaly.
