1977 Warre

Post by jdaw1 »

An emergency was declared for Monday 14th April 2025, at the Boot & Flogger.

A 1977 was proffered, so another was, so another was, and the planning attracted towards an evening of 1977s. This is good.

One of several bottles from the C&B broking list in 2020.
Appears to be in good condition. Has Wine Society mention at bottom of label.
Capsule and cork pretty good.
Decanted 0815-0830 on morning of tasting. In decanter for approximately seven hours before going back into the bottle.

Deeper end of the spectrum. Pale rim.

Lovely cherries on nose.

Rich and warn palate with black cherries. A glorious drink.

Fully resolved. Lovely bottle. Voted very slightly behind the Fonseca.

Warre 1977. Mature but dark red, 70% opaque. Lovely ripe and sweet redcurrant fruit in the nose. Wonderful concentrated fruit, surprisingly youthful with some tannin still on the palate. Some heat on the aftertaste. Long finish of red liquorice. Young, fresh. Delicious. Still needs lots more time. 88/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
