The Horizontal of 1970s, definite article, was held over two days and five flights, Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd October 2025, at the Boot & Flogger, as organised by Mike who was assisted by Julian.
1970 Delaforce. An attractive rose red colour, 50% opaque. Sweet redcurrant jelly on the restrained nose. The redcurrant jelly shines on the palate, backed by an attractive acidity. The aftertaste is impressive, full of bitter cranberry fruit, so expressive to be a delight. Youthful in nature with very little secondary characteristics showing. This would very happily live for longer in the cellar. 90/100. Oporto bottled. Double decanted 10 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
[Sample taken on night and consumed on 13/10/25] A deep rich red. Slightly acid note on the nose but promised well nevertheless. Palate is slightly bitter and unbalanced but there’s is some real wine in there somewhere and not over the hill.
