1970 Sao Pedro das Aguias Colheita (bottled 1990)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1970 Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Águias, bottled in 75cl in 1990. Decanted 5 hours. A rich, dark rosewood colour, 50% opaque. Expressive nose with a rich but sharp caramelised orange. Such smoothness on the palate, with a generous volume of flavour. A sweet treacle matched by a powerful and piercing rhubarb acidity. Sticky aftertaste, then a bright but slightly bitter finish of orange marmalade. Great persistence on the finish. Lovely Port. 94/100.

Tasted at the pre-event lunch to the Grand 1970 Tasting on 2-3 October 2025.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
