The Horizontal of 1970s, definite article, was held over two days and five flights, Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd October 2025, at the Boot & Flogger, as organised by Mike who was assisted by Julian.
BBR70: glorious dark red, 60% opaque; thinner than proper, lighter and more acidic. I recall others mentioning TCA, but for this TCA-insensitive, still drinkable with pleasure.
Fortunately the bottle used for my side of the table was not tainted with TCA.
1970 Berry Brothers Own Selection, from Warre. Brick red colour, 60% opaque. Hollow nose, showing very little. Soft and evolved on the palate with a little redcurrant. The redcurrant fruit lingers very nicely. Rather lovely. 89/100. Double decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
Note taken on 12/10/25 from sample kindly bottled on night. Red centre, pale rim. Spice and white pepper. Palate is very fruity. Soft. Attractive port. I have worked out that some, but not I think, of my samples are coming from the Alex B side of the table.
50% opacity, rich red. Sadly tained with TCA, which became more prevalent with time in the glass. The bottle on the opposite side of the table was not TCA tainted.
