G66, decanted 14:00. Glorious red, 50% opaque. Smooth, big, long and lovely, with much red cherry, and slight heat mid-palate. Top-rank Port, though lighter than perfection.
Opened at 10.00, decanted at 14.00and drunk at 17.00. Mature with an orange rim; 40% opaque. Spicy nose, very high toned with a little hint of VA. Smooth entry bringing a lovely texture. Gentle toffee flavours at first, then a wonderful acidity brings a delightful cleanliness to the sweet, sugary fruit. Balance and elegance is all over the palate. Delicious caramel and apple finish which has an astonishing length. Very fine Port. Served blind, was guessed to be Fonseca 1963. 94/100. Decanted 7 hours. My wine of the night.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
