Very dark red with an opaque centre, no bricking but not youthful. Some bramble fruit on the nose, sweet but with some sour fruit mixed in. Rich flavours with lots of fruit on the palate; ripe brambles with dry tannins giving a good grip and the fine acidity giving good freshness in the generous levels of fruit. The fruit leads on the aftertaste and delivers a big chewy finish that is full of different layers of fruit. Nicely balanced but lacking the intensity of a great Port. 89/100. Decanted 9 hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
