1977 Fonseca. An attractive deep red with an element of bricking beginning to appear. 70% opaque. A little restrained honeyed red and yellow fruit on the nose, cherry jelly on the palate - but at least the palate does gain depth and complexity. Marked acidity precedes a lovely red jelly and cherry aftertaste and finish. Delicious drinking, but lacking some of the complexity that a fully mature Fonseca will show. 92/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
