1912 Niepoort Colheita (bottled 1976 or 1977)
Bottled in 1976 or 1977 (label torn and not able to determine exact bottling date). Deep rich chestnut in colour. A bright but searingly spirity nose that resolved itself with time in the glass to become a more mature, treacle and molasses mixture. Smooth entry into the mouth then swamped by a massive wave of acidity that takes a long while to come back into balance in the mouth. After a lot of air the toffee-apple flavours that were visible fleetingly on entry come back to the fore. The aftertaste takes a while to develop but the toffee-apple flavours come through eventually and stay for a long time. 93/100. Drunk July 2007.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports, except a good bottle of Fonseca 1927. Wow!
