1967 Martinez vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A rich red, glowing and attractive with a centre that is deeply coloured but transparent. The nose is full of dusty, ripe black cherries and with some wonderful edges of vanilla fudge. Neither sweet nor dry when first meeting the tongue but full of sweet candied cherry and a great hidden pepperiness mixed in with the fruit. Rich, sweet and sumptious with very pleasant development and lots of layers on the palate. Warm aftertaste with a lovely fruit flavour, dominated by maraschino cherry and dark chocolate. This is a lovely port, complex and probably now at its peak. Really enjoyable. 92/100. Tasted on 13/11/08 after 17 hours in the decanter.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
