Whisky tasting, 3:30pm Thursday 1st January 2009

Post by jdaw1 »

At 1pm on Thursday 1st January 2009 EricD and I will be enjoying the traditional New Year’s day swim with the Coney Island Polar Bear Club. (Meet on the Boardwalk at Stillwell Avenue half an hour before the swim.)

We, and any other :tpf:ers also doing the swim, are invited to join us after at my modest abode for a whisky tasting. I shall have five or six available, and you are welcome to bring supplementary bottles.

Delightful (if cold). But I shall have to miss out as I will be in sunny California.

For a moment I thought you were doing this just for the fun of it. Then I spotted the charitable nature if the event and my fears for your sanity were relieved!

I shall be in (hopefully) sunny Houston but will watch out for any TV coverage and raise a glass of something in recognition of your efforts!

But of course we are. A few minutes in the Atlantic, 1pm, every Sunday, November to April. In the Club’s 105 years of existence the weather has never been bad enough to cancel the swim. (It is suggested that lightening repeatedly striking the beach might cause cancellation.)

Time to admit defeat. My efforts to encourage others to join me in the swim have failed. Eric is a ‘maybe’ probably chicken-out, others have blatantly chickened out.

So I’m broadening this whisky tasting to include those not swimming.

Enjoy your swim tomorrow! Texas is a bit warmer than NY I suspect. Grateful for that as I am told a swim is part of our NYE agenda!
