new "fiscal" port year

Post by Axel P »

I proudly do announce that I almost made it through my annual 4 weeks of not drinking any alcohol. I am fully aware having had this topic last year as well, but as we all are somehow affected I would like to recommend doing something like this (again).

BTW suggestions for a starter. I picked:

Vesuvio 2005
Cockburn 2003
Grahams 1985
or Niepoort 1985

to officially welcome my Port season 2009/2010.

My suggestion: open a Niepoort 1985 and
a) be very happy that you opened one of the few good bottles of this port, or:
b) find out that it's completely spoiled by VA and open the Vesuvio to get those tastebuds going again.

My personal rate of the Niepoort is 2 out of 5.

2 were absolutely fantastic and 3 being totally spoiled. I guess I will pick the chances.

Ouch. Is this the last bottle in a half-case? Or do you have another 6 to try?

I do have some 4 left and I am very much hoping to shift the percentage in my favour.

Sounds like it's almost up to the '83 Cockburn's spoilage rate. Hope it shows well for you. I have one bottle of this...guess I should open it sooner rather than later in case it's a bad one.

even worse - I just got a box of Cockburns 83 for a reasonable price though. In my personal statistics this and the Niepoort 85 are the worst concerning spoilage.

But I will post this in the corresponding thread.

Call me Mr. Unadverntureous, but I will go for the Grahams since it is my Top 85 and I think it is a bad omen to welcome the new fiscal year with some high-Corc-percentage.
