I would rule out 1980 on the basis there were 37 declarations, almost all of which were the shippers classic blends.

1984 had 19 declarations, mostly SQVPs

1993 had one, and two others claimed by broadbent in error (as recently confirmed by the relevant shippers)

Schindler's List?
Equally excellent thinking, equally incorrect film.

Genres down: thriller, drama.

Incorrect. I'll be reviewing genres hopefully shortly and will provide additional clues, however the correct year should help narrow things down a bit. It was a popular film from that year.

Okay... to the best of my knowledge, none of the above guesses are in the correct genre (I'm not familiar with some of the films). Most films, however, could be fit into more than one genre and this one is no exception. Its most obvious and classically defined genre has not been guessed, though it could be argued that it and some of the above films could be classified together in some ways.

All incorrect. I'd comment about the genres in question, but I'm actually unfamiliar with all three movies.

So... let me look up their genres according to imdb.com and provide clues based on the imdb.com tags for my favorite film...

My film has four tags on its main page in imdb.com.

Falling Down is tagged drama, thriller. One correct.
The Vanishing is tagged mystery, romance, thriller. One correct.
Shadowlands is tagged biography, drama, romance. Two correct.

No matches of the primary and most obvious genre.

The Pelican Brief is tagged drama, mystery, romance, thriller. Two correct.

No matches of the primary and most obvious genre.

A further clue: the movie received no Academy Awards nominations at all. Which, in my opinion, was highway robbery as one of the actors easily should have won the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Nope. And while I do like Wesley Snipes, I wouldn't say that his part in Rising Sun was Oscar-worthy. (Though one might argue that Sean Connery had the supporting role, and since I'm partial to Sean Connery I might be persuaded that his role was worth a nomination.)

Rising Sun is tagged crime, drama, mystery, thriller, action, which is interesting in that it is not alphabetical like most other imdb listings.

2 correct, one of which is new since I started reporting on genre tags. (There may be earlier guesses that would have this tag.)

3 of the film's 4 genre tags have now been discovered, but we're still missing the primary and most obvious genre.

For the sake of completeness, TMNT3 is tagged as action, adventure, comedy, family, fantasy and I'm sad to say that one of those does, in fact, match my favorite movie. But still not the primary and most obvious genre.

Were there really that many movies made in 1993? It was a popular movie, though not a blockbuster. It never ranked higher than 3rd in the weekly box office numbers.

It is possible that the missing genre is one that Europeans may not think of often. I think it's one that most Americans should be familiar with, however.

G-man did notice one other clue, but either got it backwards or took it too far depending on how he arrived at his guess.

And yes, that is itself another clue. ;)

Incorrect. Drama | Mystery | Romance | Thriller and all have been mentioned before. (2 correct.)

Incorrect. However, you've found the primary and most obvious genre: Western. Which, surprisingly, is the only genre that imdb lists for Posse.

It should be pretty easy at this point, there aren't that many Westerns.

Correct!

Val Kilmer's performance as Doc Holiday was masterful. Michael Biehn was very good as Johnny Ringo, too. I liked Tombstone much better than the bigger budget Wyatt Earp (starring Kevin Costner and Dennis Quaid) in 1994.

KillerB is up.

Just about Val Kilmer's best performance.

I'm quite a fan of the Stranglers, great music with two of the most distinctive and growling voices. Which single by them is my favourite and on my car iPod as a most played?

The hugely populist "Golden Brown"?
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Nope. Was talking about that one on Sunday and noted that I wouldn't have thought of it until about a tenth go.
