1985 Fonseca vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red in colour, but losing some depth now. Little fruit coming on the nose, a slight plasticine scent but essentially still closed. In the mouth there is a sweetness but not an immediate fruit; the fruit that there is shows slightly stewed. The tannins are pleasant and quite gentle. Shows lovely development and complexity. The aftertaste is low, but the length is very impressive and the flavours on the length are very enjoyable. General consensus of the group is that the bottle is probably suffering from mild Douro bake. 87/100. Drunk 26 June 2009.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
