1948 Croft vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Light red in colour, with a very slight hint of green on the rim. Mandarin peel all over the nose, redolent of a middle-aged Sauterne. Sweet and mouthcoating flavours on entry. Initally Sauterne-like but with so many layers of flavour developing on the tongue - very sweet oranges everywhere. A long aftertaste, hugely dominated by orange peel and dried apricots. An amazing wine, every bit as good as the legendary Croft '45. 96/100. Drunk 21 October 2009.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
