Right now, we're experiencing the joys of tropical cyclone PHET. Hard wind and lots of rain, it almost seems like we're back in Holland.
It seems like we're lucky. It was a category 4 cyclone when it approached us, but is back to 1 now, and most importantly, we are likely to be spared of the worst part of the cyclone. Other parts of the country did get the full blow though. If the heavy rains continue for long, they can be problematic though. Already, we can hardly get in and out of the house because the water is knee deep on the street, but if the water keeps piling up, streets and bridges are likely to give in. River beds that are normally dry turn into wild streams. And here in the city, people have built houses and commercial centres in them... that will most likely cause some serious damage. Our house is safe in a higher area.
Some real port weather!

Re: Phet
It's well past us now. Skies are sunny again, the sea's still a bit rough, but otherwise all is fine. No big damage to our house, other than the usual leaking during rain. Yesterday was quite horrible, with lots of rain and heavy winds. Many roads were flooded, among which the main highway. That made travelling in and out of the city virtually impossible. And there was major flooding in the river beds, just as I predicted. Many shops and restaurants were flooded. I took a look there today and it was a muddy mess. They were still pumping the water out of the Mc Donalds. McMud anyone?
