2004 Warre LBV (filtered)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled filtered in 2009. Pop 'n' pour serving from a previously sealed bottle.

Deep red, slightly watery appearance and with none of the purple of youth - surprisingly mature looking. Slightly over-ripe raspberries and brambles on the nose. In the mouth this is well balanced on entry; not too sweet, with restrained fruit, gentle acidity and very soft tannins. Shows good development on the palate, with a lovely peppery bite and a nice blueberry core. A little hot on the aftertaste, but opens to a caramel and mild red licorice finish of considerable length. A nice LBV to drink now, but which is unlikely to improve much with additional bottle age. 84/100. Drunk 29 July 2010.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
