1974 Warre LBV (unfiltered)
Traditional LBV, bottled 1978. Beautiful mature red colour, with only a slight bricking on the rim. Served slightly too warm; dusty raspberries on the nose with the alcohol a little too prominent. Balanced and composed on entry with plenty of sweet, mature fruit. Still some tannins show at the back of this port, but most of the structure comes from the lovely balance between fruit and acidity. Plentiful aftertaste leads to a lovely red licorice finish of generous length. This is a lovely, elegant port and shows why traditional LBV should be allowed 35-40 years to mature. 90/100.
