1977 Fonseca
In honour of the presence in London of Dr Dirk Bruns, people gathered at the The Crusting Pipe on Tuesday 3rd January 2012 to taste some 1977s. Links:
Re: 1977 Fonseca
F77, decanted 14:45. Only 40% opaque, red with a slight hint of pink. Wonderful. Big, smooth, gentle heat mid-palate, cherries. Oddly for this shipper, no plums. Wonderful texture and flavour.
Re: 1977 Fonseca
Great great port - fabulous port-like nose (yes - i wrote that...), boistrous, mouth-filling and big, punchy red fruit. Attention-grabbing. Again, ready now (though no hurry, just can't see this getting better - but hope to be proved wrong in 10yrs!) ***** (94)

Re: 1977 Fonseca
Deep red in colour, 90% opaque. Evolved on the nose with lots of attractive sweet redcurrant and all spice - delightful. Warm and enticing entry, bringing spicy fruit. Slightly out of balance with the acidity dominating over the fruit. Hot aftertaste, followed by a long and fruity finish. 90/100. 5 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
