Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
Following discussion in the thread resulting in a tasting on Wed 8th Feb, there is also to be a tasting on Wed 22nd Feb 2012, in which bottles should have some connection, however tenuous, with Jubilee.
We need to agree a location.

Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
I suggest that we hold one Feb event in TCP (convenient for BMHR and AHB when they have to leave for home) and one in TBH (convenient for many others when they have to head home).
Unless anyone has a strong objection, I suggest 22nd Feb is in TCP.

Any preference whether this should be a tasting with bottles announced before arrival or blind?

While my first response was to say yes, I am not gong to make it that easy. Are you really saying that you cannot find a bottle of port that you could link in some remote and spurious manner to the Queen, her jubilee, her predecessors or her family?jdaw1 wrote:Please may I adopt?

Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
So far, there appear to be 3 confirmed attendees - AHB, DRT CMAG and JDAW; RAYC as probable. This is a sufficient quorum to ensure the offline goes ahead, but I need to organise a table and large steaks.
Could anyone planning to attend please say so soon, and whether they need a steak ordered.
Thanks.

My printer has broken - would someone else be able to print?
We are in the office tomorrow night. It will be cosy with 6. If anyone else is likely to arrive, we may need to move to a table in the back of TCP.
Ray - please let us know when you can whether you will be with us or not. That way we can have a place set out for you (or not) as needed.
See you tomorrow.

Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
Is there any interest, as a side-show to this tasting, in doing a side by side comparison of the Noval 2005 LBV and the Quinta do Noval "Single Vineyard" 2005 LBV?
I have been meaning to do this for a while, and would like to do it whilst both are still on the shelves and available.
If so, i will also bring some 60ml sample jars so that people can take a full portion home (since we already have more than 1 bottle per person on the slate...).

Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
There has been a small error when DRT packed to come to London yesterday.
One of the bottles I brought has a very definite tenuous link to the theme.
The other could very tenuously be described as having a tenuous link to the theme.
Is the degree of tenuosity something I need to be concerned about?

UPDATE (but only partially so as to continue to wind up Phil!)
Since we are in the back there is plenty of space for late joiners or unannounced joiners who arrive prior to 11pm.
Steaks have been ordered for 6. We have been relocated to the tunnels, so bring torches in order to see the colour of the ports.AHB wrote:So far, there appear to be 3 confirmed attendees - AHB, DRT CMAG, JDAW, RAYC and RLC. This has worried me a little as my bottle really does have a tenuous link to the thread providing the link is tenuous to the extreme...to be sure I am now bringing two bottles...one has a definite tenuous link...the other would need some work but if the tenuosity extends to wine made whilst the monarchy is in tact...then no problemDRT wrote:There has been a small error when DRT packed to come to London yesterday.

Re: Wed 22nd Feb 2012, Jubilee
The rule is that there has to be a link - no matter how tenuous - with the Jubilee. It could be port that has been carried on the grey tube line - that would fit the category of a tenuous link. The challenge is to the ingenuity of the drinker in coming up with the link, it's not meant to make it difficult to find a bottle to bring.Cookie wrote:This has worried me a little as my bottle really does have a tenuous link to the thread providing the link is tenuous to the extreme...to be sure I am now bringing two bottles...one has a definite tenuous link...the other would need some work but if the tenuosity extends to wine made whilst the monarchy is in tact...then no problemDRT wrote:There has been a small error when DRT packed to come to London yesterday.

However, having said that, I am proud to say that both of my bottles are very directly associated with the Jubilee - although they may well both taste awful...

Gents, I shall be joining you, but not until around 8.30 - 9pm. I am hoping to get a chance to drop a bottle off around 5.30 - 6pm or so. I shall endeavour to ensure it is labelled. The link to the theme should be within the 'realms' of tenuous!
