A splendid evening, despite DRT feeling slightly jaded having eaten some lettuce the previous evening and therefore not feeling quite on tip-top form.

The Ports were of a good standard, but none of them were blockbuster quality.

As is usual at this venue the lighting was poor and the food was very good. One outcome of this tasting was positive confirmation that, despite TCP management having added a couple of top quality aesthetic enhancements, TBH is now very firmly my preferred venue for such events.

I think Her Majesty's loyal servants did a splendid job of sticking rigidly to the theme. Well done team TPF!

It was a jolly splendid evening and some enjoyable ports - although I agree that there were no blockbusters. I did rather like the Burmester 1952 colheita.

While Pati still works at TCP, we will continue to get excellent service and the convenience of the location for my journey home means that I will continue to arrange the occasional offline there. However, I concur with what my honourable friend from Chesterfield has said. I find it sad when the management team change twice in less than a year and can't be bothered to come round and introduce themselves to a group of people that must be amongst their most regular clientele. Despite the inconvenience, I am happy to use TBH more frequently in the future.

And now some suggested amendments for when DRT has some time and energy:

Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Another great evening with good company. I agree that there were no blockbusters in the line up but I was very pleased with the quality of the Burmester 1952...exactly as a Colheita should be and, despite the purists amongst us, deserved to be WOTN.

And it was, by quite a margin.

  2. with 10½ points, 1970 Warre;
  3. with 6 points, 1967 Martinez;
  4. with 4½ points, Mundy’s Investiture Port (from AHB).

I’ve never heard of Mundy’s before. Do you know if they are / were a shipper?

I think it is actually Munday's rather than Mundy's, and they appear to have been a Swansea-based merchant (the premesis are now a pub / cocktail lounge)

Note that there is another TN for this wine posted under "Vargellas Crusted bottled 1969" and listed under Taylor Quinta de Vargellas in the Index. Perhaps we should decide on a single name as there were originally 2000 of these bottles out there and i'm sure we'll come across another at some point!
