1966 Quinta do Noval

Post by jdaw1 »

Some of the obvious suspects gathered, with Stephanie T. Galley (friend of wife of jdaw1), in The Bung Hole, to drink some 1966s.

N66, the darkest red on the table. To taste lots of tannin, with milk chocolate, but it has lost fruit, giving it a closed sensation. I think this has started the slide downhill. Others disagreed.

Deepest coloured of the 6 ports tasted on this evening; 55% opaque. Faint nose, attractive and fruity. Balanced entry, large and intense flavours right from the first impression. Very fruity on the fabulous mid-palate. Big floral aftertaste, hot initial aftertaste and a dry finish, with the tannins showing late. Really good port. 95/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
