Decanted 13:00.

The eye could make out ‟55” and ‟57”, even though the camera couldn’t.

T55: red-pink, 25% opaque. Taste of dark dark fruit. Heat mid-palate. Taste big early and mid, but ending weaker, though lovely start to finish. The early palate suggested a need for more cellar time, but this was contradicted by the late palate. The guest of honour suggested that it ‟lacks freshness”.

Notably darker than the anomalous T50 SQ. Rim is clear, rust red/brown going to rich ruby core. Really lovely nose, warm, rounded soft fruit. Palate is very good, perhaps a little short on fruit but with warm notes of caramel and brandy. Slightly hot. 90 pts.

John Sarson & Son. Bronzed orange colour, 15% opaque. Little showing on the nose, just a little sweet nutmeg. Sweet entry, a little gentle cinammon spiciness. Develops beautifully on the palate but modest in volume. Perfumed and elegant with a delicious dustiness. Long and perfumed aftertaste and a terrific finish. A little more time in the glass allowed the nose to open up more and show some lovely sweet fruit. Very fine port. 94/100. 22-Mar-13. Decanted 3½ hours.
