While we are talking about birds, there is story I would like to share. In a local pub, I once saw a plate commemorating the 40th anniversary of the local bird breeding society, which is traditionally named "Vogelverein" (literarily "bird society"). But there was a linguistic variant on the plate. The Umlaut was used thereby spelling it "VÃ¶gelverein".
Now it got a double meaning, because you could also translate it as "shagging society". As teenagers we joked that we should become members of the "VÃ¶gelverein".

I saw the bird while standing on the bridge at the entrance to the Japanese garden at the back of the grounds in which the hotel is set. The garden has many water pools, a stream and lots of trees, shrubs and other foliage.

A fantastic sight, it is one of the only birds I see which makes my heart go fast.

My wife has seemed a little jaded this weekend. To cheer her up I wandered into the bedroom this morning in an outfit and it worked. It consisted of 3 items. What were they?

Kingfishers are indeed amazing. Saw one in Dublin about 20 years ago and haven't seen one since but I still remember it.
